Maemo Said, "Shut Your Pie Hole"

I recently spent a week of pure delight with my five year old granddaughter. Her daycare was closed due to several of the staff being out with COVID. Her parents both have to work, so I volunteered to drive to the East Coast to pick her up and bring her to the farm to quarantine. I try to not say anything inappropriate around her and be a bad influence, but I said, “Shut your pie hole,” the last time I visited her in Florida. She promptly said, “That’s not nice to say Maemo,” lovingly correcting me as she wagged her little finger. She’s an old soul.

The week flew by. We swam, painted rocks, and pushed her in the big swing outside under the tall oak tree a hundred times. I was sad to have to bring her back, but her mommy was missing her, big school was starting, and so, I brought her back. During her stay, my youngest of the four, Taylor, delivered an eight pound, twelve ounce baby boy, named Tate. Our world just grew in love and happiness by 200%. Of course, with these precious babies that are too young to be immunized, it started serious conversations in our home regarding protecting our young.

It saddens and scares me when people think the vaccine is part of a conspiracy theory. I am one to research. I have joked and said google is my primary physician. I did study nursing and went on to work in Occupational Therapy as a COTA for twenty-six years and know the value of vaccinations. I am also self-insured for health now, so I want to really take care of myself in all areas. I choose to vaccinate.

During the pandemic I quarantined but played tennis a few times a week practicing social distancing. I had interesting conversations from opposing views and those who agree. I respect everyone’s right to speak their opinion. It’s how we learn from each other. I just have new and stronger feelings on the subject now that my grandchildren’s health is a consideration.

I just hope those that don’t choose to vaccinate for COVID will stay away from all children that aren’t old enough to be vaccinated. I just feel the children need protecting until they can get vaccinated. That said, I also choose to not harass or shame someone on Facebook or any other social media for their post. However, I will encourage with love and empathy, please get vaccinated. Oh yeah and “Shut your pie hole” about the vaccines being a conspiracy! Educate yourself people.

May you never lose hope, and may you find peace wherever you go.

Jackie
