Sunday Is a Favorite Day of the Week for Me

04/07/2013

Sunday has always been one of my favorite days.  This morning I woke up after Anabelle’s dad had left the house for work at a local grocery store.  Anabelle had a good night of continuous rest and so did I.  I’m excited this morning because the rest of my family is coming to visit, minus my son, Trey.  He is in the Navy, stationed at Tinker Airforce Base in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  The others are driving in from Brookhaven, Mississippi, to visit today.  Nikki is getting better every day and is going home with Jerry, my husband, and Taylor.  Tay has been playing shortstop for Brookhaven High School fastpitch softball team and has a batting average of 484.

I open the backdoor, keeping the screen door latched, and let in the fresh cool spring air.  The flowers Nikki planted before she became ill are blooming and the birds are singing.  I am lost in a moment of God’s beauty.  God is the artist and nature is his canvas.  I am in awe of his handiwork.

I hurry to get dressed and ready for the day before the baby awakes.  I am able to do this and get a little time of quiet meditation.  I am practicing faith…at least I’m trying to have faith.  Truth is I am full of conflicting emotions trying to navigate through this storm with as much grace and dignity as I can muster.  I am

humbled by my limitations and have no other choice but to pour out my heart to God.  I try to live in the moment.  Anabelle is doing so good and finally feeling so much better.  Nikki is doing better and really trying to be strong.  Our Anabelle team is still supportive of each other, and we all agree how Anabelle has changed each of us for the better since we have come to know her.

Anabelle wakes up smiling and my heart leaps!  I get a message from Brookhaven that they will be here around 1 p.m.  I decide after giving Anabelle her morning bath and her therapy (OT and PT program), that we have time for a walk, just Anabelle and Maemo.  I feel a little guilty for taking her before they get here, but I justify it by telling myself we can go on two walks today.

When they get here, we take turns rocking her and everyone attempts to make her smile.  Ashley leaves her apartment upstairs and joins us for our mini family reunion.  Later Ashley takes Taylor for a scooter ride to the park to ride along the Mississippi River for some sister time.  The time flies by and before long they have to leave.  We kiss and hug each other, telling each other how much we love them.  Ashley has an early morning wake up for work at 3 a.m. and excuses herself as the others head back north.

Anabelle’s dad returns from work exhausted and soon is snoring from the adjoining room in the Victorian shotgun apartment.  Once again, it’s me and my sweet Anabelle.  I give her a bath that she thoroughly enjoys, followed by a massage with lavender scented grapeseed oil.  Now that she is relaxed, I take her to the living room and sing to her as I rock her.  It’s not long before she is sleeping soundly.

I lay her in her crib and go to finish the last of the daily chores.  Her feeding bag has to be changed every twenty-four hours.  New formula has to be prepared and supplements added.  I set my computer by her bed and finish the blog.

                                                Good Night
